Welcome to the Centre for Gender Studies (CGS) homepage. The CGS is one of the Academic Centers within the College of Arts and Social Sciences (CASS). The Center is currently located at the College of Education (former KIE), in Remera, where it originally started as the Center for Gender, Culture and Development, in 2009. The CGS was established to build gender expertise to support the Government of Rwanda’s objective of promoting gender equality and women’s empowerment. The CGS engages in teaching, research, and, community outreach activities. In particular the Center offers Post-graduate programmes such as the Master of Social Sciences (MSocSci) in Gender and Development. Also, on offer are short courses on gender related subjects for public, private and civil society organisations. In addition, the Center engages in research and development projects, consultancies and knowledge transfer through training programmes for government departments and agencies, private sector and non-governmental organistaions.

The CGS has developed partnerships and collaboration with international and regional academic and non-academic institutions and carries out joint research, conferences, curriculum development, staff and staff exchanges.
